In the coming months, The Overcome 80 Committee will be holding a number of outreach activities throughout Van Zandt County. Here are those scheduled to date:

 

September 25 Whistle Stop Tour

Tentative Schedule

Friday, September 24, 2004

6:00 p.m.--Final Organizational Meeting for all advance teams, candidates, etc.

Saturday, September 25, 2004

7:00 a.m.-8:30 a.m.--"Donoughts With Democrats" Fund-Raiser Kick-Off

Wills Point Community Center (Or A Cheaper Location)

Wills Point, Texas

8:30 a.m.--Tour Departs Wills Point For Edgewood

8:45-9:30--Tour stops in Edgewood with a run through the business district concluding with a rally at the Edgewood Senior Citizens Center.

9:30--Tour Departs Edgewood for Fruitvale

9:45-10:30--Tour stops in Fruitvale for rally in Fruitvale in the high school parking lot or another location TBA.

10:30--Tour departs Fruitvale for Grand Saline.

10:45-11:30--Tour arrives in Grand Saline for tour of the downtown business district concluding with a rally at either the old library or pavilion unless a street closing can be assured for an outdoor rally.

11:30--Tour departs Grand Saline for Van.

11:45--Tour arrives in Van and tours downtown business district

11:55--Tour arrives at Van Community Center for fund-raising luncheon. Tentative keynotes by David Van Os and Bob Scarbrough. All candidates will speak.

1:15--Tour departs Van Community Center for Edom.

1:45--Tour arrives in Edom and tours downtown business district before arriving at community center for rally.

1:55-2:30--Rally at Edom Community Center.

2:30--Tour departs Edom Community Center for Wynne Community.

3:00--Tour arrives in Wynne Community for rally at local church or community center.

3:30--Tour departs Wynne Community for rally in Whitton, first stopping in the downtown business district to canvass businesses and promote evening fund-raiser.

3:45--Tour departs downtown Canton for Whitton

4:15--Tour arrives in Whitton for rally at location TBA.

4:45--Tour leaves Whitton for rally in Tundra or Phalba, location TBA.

5:15--Tour arrives in Tundra or Phalba for rally.

5:45--Tour leaves Tundra or Phalba for fund-raiser in Canton at Farm Bureau Building.

6:00--Tour arrives at Farm Bureau in Canton for ceremonial entry into fund-raiser.

7:30--(tentative) Day is capped with a youth activity (possibly a battle of the bands) at one of the Lewis Pavilions on First Monday Trade Days grounds.

2004 Election Cycle

Thursday, August 12, 2004: Campaign 2004 Outreach Workshop.to all activists, party officials and those who want to help campaign. Location: Ranchero Buffett Meeting Room. 7 p.m.

(The following are all Saturdays)

August 14, 2004: Door-To-Door Voter Registration Drive and Democratic Party Outreach in Canton. Meet downtown at the corner of Buffalo and Tyler streets at 9:00 a.m.

August 21, 2004: Door-To-Door Voter Registration Drive and Democratic Party Outreach in Grand Saline. Meet in the Brookshire's parking lot., 9:00 a.m.

August 28, 2004: Democratic Party Headquarters Grandng and Street Fair, downtown Canton, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On Buffalo Street from the intersection of Dallas to the intersection of Groves.

September 4, 2004: Door-To-Door Voter Registration Drive and Democratic Party Outreach in Van. Meet in the Brookshire's parking lot, 9:00 a.m.

September 11, 2004: Door-To-Door Voter Registration Drive and Democratic Party Outreach in Edgewood. Meet downtown in front of City Hall at 9:00 a.m.

September 18, 2004: Door-To-Door Voter Registration Drive and Democratic Party Outreach in Wills Point. Meet downtown in front of the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce, 9 a.m.

September 25, 2004: Overcome 80/Democratic Party of Van Zandt County Old Fashioned Whistle Stop Tour (Schedule to be released soon).

October 2, 2004: Final Day To Register Voters! Outreach points at Canton Wal-Mart, Brookshires in Grand Saline, Van and Wills Point

October 9, 2004: Door-to-Door Outreach, Canton. Meet downtown at the corner of Buffalo and Tyler streets at 9:00 a.m.

October 16, 2004: Door-To-Door Outreach in Grand Saline. Meet in the Brookshire's parking lot., 9:00 a.m.

October 23, 2004: Door-To-Door Outreach in Van. Meet in the Brookshire's parking lot, 9:00 a.m.

October 30, 2004: Door-To-Door Outreach in Wills Point. Meet downtown in front of the Wills Point Chamber of Commerce, 9 a.m.

October 30, 2004: Door-to-Door Voter Outreach in Edgewood. Meet downtown in front of City Hall, 3:00 p.m.

 

 

 

The mission of the Overcome 80 Initiative is as follows:

 

Register More Voters In Van Zandt County

Work To Make Sure All Voters Exercise Their Right To Vote

Work To Energize Our Core Base Of Democratic Party

Voters To Make Sure They Are Voting And Voting Democratic

Work To Increase The Scope Of The Core Base Of Democratic Voters

Work To Reach Out To Senior Citizens, Young Voters, And Minority Voters To Increase Voter Registration And Voting Among Those Groups

Work To Increase Grassroots Efforts To Encourage Voter Participation And Democratic Voting In All Elections
