Democrats Participate In Independence Day Activities
The Democratic Party of Van Zandt County, its leadership and elected
officials turned out in full force Saturday to help celebrate American
independence as part of the July 4 celebration in Canton.
The Party had a booth on the square to give away watermelon manned by
Democratic candidates and volunteers including Tax Assessor/Collector Vicki L.
Looney, Myrtle Springs; Precinct 2 Commissioner David B. Risner, Phalba; Sheriff
R.P. "Pat" Burnett, Jr, Edewood; Precinct 3 Commissioner Jimmy Don Wilson, Wills
Point; Precinct 2 Justice of the Peace Ronnie L. Daniell, Canton; Precinct Chair
Bill Freeman, Executive Secretary Michael Anne White, Van, and volunteers
including Ed Looney, Myrtle Springs; Robert Jones, Rolling Oaks; James &
Rhomilda Foreman, Myrtle Springs; Lloyd Valentine, Edgewood; Precinct 1
Commissioner Candidate Albert Willingham and his wife, Sue; Sandra Wilson of
Wills Point; and others.
A large number of citizens and county Democrats stopped by the booth to meet
the candidates and partake of ice-cold watermelon.
Democratic officeholders also took part in the patriotic ceremony on the
front steps of the Van Zandt County Courthouse Saturday following Canton's July
4 parade. Democratic officeholders taking part in the ceremony included Tax
Assessor/Collector Vicki L. Looney, who led in the pledge to the American Flag,
and numerous other Democratic officeholders who were recognized for their
service to the people of Van Zandt County including County Treasurer Judy
Peoples, Grand Saline; Criminal District Attorney Leslie Poynter Dixon,
Edgewood; Precinct 2 County Commissioner David B. Risner; Precinct 3 County
Commissioner Jimmy Don Wilson; Sheriff R.P. "Pat"; Burnett, Jr. and Precinct 2
Justice of the Peace Ronnie L. Daniell. County Chairman Vince Leibowitz served
as master of ceremonies for the event in his capacity as coordinator for the
Heart of Canton/Main Street's July 4th Activities.
Negotiations are currently underway to procure a headquarters facility for
the Party for the November elections. An announcement of the location will come
at a later date and a ribbon-cutting has been tentatively scheduled for
Saturday, August 27 in Canton.

*Precinct 3 Commissioner Elect Kelles Miller continues to make a full
recovery from recent ailments at a Dallas hospital.
*The Executive Committee of the Democratic Party of Van Zandt County will
meet Thursday, July 29 at Ranchero's Buffett in Canton for its quarterly
meeting.

*The Democratic Party of Van Zandt County will hold its July meeting on
Tuesday, July 20, 2004 at the American National Bank of Canton, in the Community
Room. A guest speaker will be announced later this month.
*Vicki Looney's first fund-raiser of the 2004 Election Cycle will be held
Saturday, July 24, 2004 at the Farm Bureau Assembly Hall in Canton. Call (903)

*Albert Willingham's first fund-raiser of the cycle will be Saturday, July
17, 2004 at the Pavilion in Grand Saline. Call for tickets.
